In the late 1950's Struers introduced an abrasive diamond paste for the preparation of materialographic specimens. This was a major breakthrough in materialography, because the use of diamonds now made it possible to cut equally through both the soft and the hard phases of any material, no matter how hard it might be.
Originally only natural diamonds were available, but with the introduction of synthetic diamonds a vast number of applications became possible, and today Struers is able to offer diamond products for all purposes within materialographic grinding and polishing.
Different lubricants have also been developed by Struers specifically for use with these diamond products. Struers diamond polishing products are subject to the most stringent control possible, both during development and in production. It is the effectiveness of the control that distinguishes Struers diamond products from all others. Naturally, all Struers diamond products are being produced without the use of Freon (CFC).
