Struers offers an entire range of machines, consumables and know-how for materialographic preparation and analysis - from manual systems for the preparation of the occasional sample to powerful, fully automatic preparation solutions for high-volume processing with outstanding reproducibility.
Mechanical preparation is the most common method of preparing materialographic samples for microscopic examination. Abrasive particles are used in successively finer steps to remove material from the surface, until the required result is reached.
Electrolytic polishing is the anodic dissolution of material from the specimen surface in an electrolytic cell. After a short pre-treatment, the specimen is immersed in a conductive liquid (electrolyte), a current is applied, and material is removed from the surface. |
